(Macau).- Macau’s COVID-19 recovery has steered back on track in July, with gross gaming revenue rising 29.2% over June and 528% year-on-year to MOP$8.44 billion (US$1.05 billion).

Macau GGR up 29.2% month-on-month to MOP$8.44 billion in July

The month-on-month sequential improvement comes after Macau’s gaming operators recorded their lowest revenue figure of the year in June at just MOP$6.54 billion (US$817.2 million) due to an outbreak of COVID-19 in parts of neighboring Guangdong Province.

Border restrictions introduced to prevent the spread of the outbreak into Macau have since been eased.
According to information published by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau on Sunday, July’s GGR figures represent a 29.2% improvement over July 2020, when Macau recorded GGR of just MOP$1.34 billion (US$167.4 million). However, it is still 65.5% below July 2019 when GGR came in at MOP$24.45 billion (US$3.05 billion).

For the first seven months of 2021 combined, Macau has recorded GGR of MOP$57.47 billion (US$7.18 billion), up 63.9% over the same period last year.
